Simplicity

Aunt Angie Huber shares key points about communicating effectively
Aunt Angie Huber shares key points about communicating effectively
I’ve been thinking about this and reading about this. I’ve even been hearing about this. Ruth’s Aunt Angie, also a missionary here in Brazil, gave a great lesson on communicating. A great communicator knows what he wants to communicate and then puts his energy towards that. Everything serves the main goal of communicating that thought. Short and concise is powerful. How many personal testimonies have you heard that would have been great if they were half as long. That’s why everyone likes to film a testimony. Because later they can edit it to be presented with simplicity of purpose. Take the movie Australia for example. If they would have ended it 1/3 of the way through the movie, it would have been much better than it was.

I read an article about simplicity in photography from Ken Rockwell that was humorously well written. Up until the 1980’s, cameras were becoming more and more simple – everything from exposure to focus was being automated and allowed the photographer to stop thinking about technique and think about the subject of his pictures. Great pictures came forth. Photographers could concentrate on their pictures and not their cameras. After all, cameras serve the pictures, it’s not pictures that serve the camera. Then in the 90’s, to sell more cameras, companies began adding “junk” features.

Double Holiday Greetings!

Here’s a Christmas present from us to you- pictures of the girls!! 🙂 The girls are doing very well. Rebecca weighs 7 1/2 lbs and Anna a little over 6 lbs! I’ve been planning to post these pictures for awhile, it’s just that every time I went to post them, I had to leave to help with the girls! Now that Ruth’s family has arrived (Bruno and Beth from São Paulo and Paul from Fortaleza), there’s much more help available, which means Dad gets to mark some things off his to-do list, including this post!

OK- enough talk- look at these pictures!!! Click them to see them larger.

In the midst of adjusting to life as new parents, we’ve had a number of get-togethers and Christmas parties, all to grow our cell group and share Christ’s love. In short- they’ve been great and we’ve been growing our group. Also, I will soon be talking more about a new CD project that is coming together as result of the great MDA Conference we recently had. I’ve been asked to produce the CD for the church which will be launched at next years’ huge Congresso (where we pack the stadium with 30,000+ people for 3 nights)!!! I’m super excited to be a part of this brand new project.

Needless to say, we need your continued prayers for:

  • Being new parents
  • Health in the midst of not sleeping much
  • Special blessing on winning others for Christ and growing them in our cell group
  • Grace to get my work done with the mission (website, video, etc.)
  • Blessing on the big CD project coming up
  • .

For now, it’s time to enjoy the holidays and our family. Thank you for your continued love and support, and we wish you a wonderful Christmas full of God’s love and peace. If you have snow, enjoy it!

The girls are home!

Yes- the girls are back home and doing well! Yesterday (Wednesday) at about 3 PM everyone was released from the hospital and had a wonderful ride back home. Now we are getting settled in. The grandmas are setting up a schedule to help us out and we are sure glad, because having twins is a LOT of work – and it’s only been 3 days! We feel so super blessed and we thank all of you for the wonderful emails and comments. It’s been so neat to see how God is using our story to show off his loving kindness. OK – enough talk – want to see some super cute photos? 🙂 I thought so! Make sure to click these photos to see them larger. Once opened, you can use your arrow keys to advance.

Even though much of the costs of the births were covered by insurance, the costs of our doctors was not. We got the best doctors in Santarém to do the births- not wanting to risk anything. Our total cost was about R$7,500 (about $4,300 at the current exchange rate). It’s still much cheaper than if we would have had to fly somewhere (in Brazil or the States) and have the births there. If you wish, you can give a special gift towards Rebecca and Anna’s births by clicking here and donating through Project AmaZon. Thanks and God bless!

Daughters of the Promise: Rebecca Joy and Anna Grace

It’s with so much pride that I announce to you the birth of Rebecca Joy Reutter (5lb 12oz) at 10:40 PM (8:40 Eastern) and Anna Grace Reutter (3lb 8oz) at 10:42 PM! The babies are super healthy, and the mother too! Praise God for his faithfulness to us – and thank all of you praying on our behalf. The births could not have gone better.

Even though here platelets were low, Ruth was still able to have an epidural. Because I grow weak and faint at the sight of blood (it’s true), I was in an adjoining room when Rebecca was born. I heard a healthy cry and tears came to my eyes. I heard the next cry and I was just beaming. Ruth said that her joy would be complete when she heard them cry, and I was so thrilled that she got the joy of hearing her healthy babies cry!

Anna’s already started to nurse well, and Rebecca – well – she’s been wanting to sleep! Since we have no internet at the hospital, I had to come back home to share the great news with all of you who were right here with us in spirit! Look at these photos! Did you ever see anything so beautiful? I think not 🙂 Maybe I’m partial though.

Continue to pray for Ruth’s quick recovery and for the girls to put on some weight. We thank all of you so much for your love and support and check back here soon for more updates, pictures and prayer requests! We won’t let our guard down now- but pray them through these first critical months! Now enjoy these photos (remember to click on them to see them nice and large)
